Festival Theme 2009 "Champion of a Dream!" The Plant City Dr. MLK Cultural Arts Festival promotes increased diversity awareness and opportunities for citizens of Plant City and surrounding West Central Florida to actively engage in gaining knowledge, and history of African culture by participating in various cultural activities to include a city parade, midway, concerts, forums, leadership breakfast, community service projects and educational information and tours of the Plant City Bing Rooming House, an African American Community Museum. Proceeds from this festival will benefit the following goals for 2009 1) Increase college scholarship awards to four $1,000 scholarships for local area high school seniors. Past receipents include: Mr. Martin Girling, Ms. Kellie Liess, Ms. Nancy Valdez, and Ms. Sharone Dexter. 2) Upgrading the Cyber Seniors Computer Lab. 3) Hosts a Teen Conference for 200 local area teens. 4) Continued interior restoration of the Bing Rooming House Museum and exhibits. Improvement League of Plant City, Incorporated is proud host of this 23rd Annual event in partnership with our sponsor City of Plant City Rereation & Parks Department. |
